Microsoft to Showcase Software Applications for Next-Generation Networks at IEC’s SOFNET in London

The International Engineering Consortium’s SOFNET 08 serves as the first conference and exhibition exclusively dedicated to the impact of network integration by uniting software, next-generation technologies and service providers

CHICAGO – The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) today announced Microsoft as a major supporter of its SOFNET 08 conference and exhibition. Microsoft will participate in the exhibition as well as present in the world-class educational program. Microsoft General Manager of Global Solutions at Microsoft TV Andreas Mueller-Schubert will also present the Wednesday Keynote Address. SOFNET 08 takes place this 28 April through 1 May at the Olympia National Hall in London, England with BT as the official host sponsor.

“Microsoft, a world-leading software provider, plays an important role in the development of next-generation, software-powered networks,” commented IEC President John Janowiak. “It’s critical that the dialogue between software and hardware companies with carriers increases in order to enhance communication for our communities and businesses; Microsoft’s vision for ‘Telco 2.0’ fits squarely with our event theme and we look forward to their active participation at SOFNET 08.”

SOFNET 08 will provide participants with a framework to examine the impact of software as it becomes the driving element in next-generation carrier networks.

Michael O’Hara, general manager, Communications Sector at Microsoft, said, “With increasing pressure to meet market demands, telcos are seeking to broaden their ecosystem of partners and developers in order to deliver the new and innovative services accessible through the world of web services. Microsoft has long supported and promoted those relationships with the aim of empowering telcos to spur application innovation. SOFNET 08 provides an important venue for this community to discuss new ideas and address market challenges.”

SOFNET 08 will result in innovation in network operations and management; in provisioning of unique software-based applications and services; in increasing speed to market of new services; and in enhancing the customer experience.

Software and technologies, both software and hardware, will be explored for their influence in creating “soft service providers.” In addition, wireline and wireless software developments and technologies, architectures, and systems supporting the new architectures will also be addressed in more than 50 sessions presented by approximately 150 high-level industry experts.
