Kineto’s Industry Leading UMA Client to be available for 3G Phones built with Qualcomm Chipsets
Milpitas, California – Kineto Wireless, the key innovator and leading supplier of UMA technology, today announced that it has reached agreement with Qualcomm on a collaboration that will UMA-enable certain Qualcomm 3G UMTS chipsets. The resulting UMA-enabled chipset platforms together with the industry leading Kineto UMA/GAN client software is expected to be available to phone manufacturers in the first half of 2008.
Kineto’s UMA client software, fully compliant with the latest 3GPP GAN specifications (version 6.10), enables 3G handsets to seamlessly roam and handover between the cellular 3G UMTS network, the 2.5G GSM/EDGE network, and home or enterprise Wi-Fi access networks.
“Kineto is very excited to be working with Qualcomm, the leading provider of UMTS chipsets, to deliver UMA technology for multi-mode 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi enabled handsets” said Mark Powell, vice president and general manager of client solutions at Kineto. “We are seeing strong demand for 3G handsets with UMA/Wi-Fi technology from both operators and handset vendors. This collaboration will help satisfy the demand and allow handset vendors to build 3G UMA phones on the excellent Qualcomm UMTS platform.”
