Acer ready to exploit Dell's decline

Acer says Dell no threat to business

Acer has thrown down the gauntlet to rival PC vendor Dell, claiming it is no longer regarded as a threat and that it should be concerned as competitors look to capitalise on its declining market share.

Semmy Levit, UK country manager at Acer, said: “Dell is not a threat. If anything, it is the other way around and Acer is a threat to Dell. It is a big company and it is very good at what it is doing, but it is suffering at the moment and we are looking to capitalise on this. Dell’s current position provides an opportunity for Acer to win back some business and that is what we hope to do.”
Gianpiero Morbello, European marketing director at Acer, added: “We are gaining market share where Dell is losing. For us it is not a threat.”

Levitt was confident resellers will also benefit. “The reseller has an opportunity,” he explained. “The business that Dell has in the UK is at the expense of the reseller. Acer works with just the channel.”
Jonathan Wall, marketing director at Acer reseller, Dabs.com, said: “Dell losing market share is always good news for resellers. Any business it loses will come back into the channel.

“We have benefited from working with the likes of Acer as it has looked to drive down Dell’s business through its channel strategy and resellers have reaped the rewards from the renewed business.”
