Open source browser prepares for release

Mozilla Corporation has issued Release Candidate 2 of its forthcoming Firefox 2.0 browser, marking the final test phase before the launch of the finished product.

The application was originally slated for release in August, but was pushed back after the discovery of additional bugs.

Mozilla said previously that the application is scheduled for release on 24 October, but the company's development calendar does not list a launch date.

Firefox 2.0 marks a major revision for the open source browser, offering an integrated anti-phishing filter and improvements to the search and tabbed browsing features.

The application also offers a 'restore session' feature that allows users to resume a browsing session at the point where it was terminated, including unfinished downloads and retaining text entered in online forms.

Mozilla warned that the new version is still in its test phase and might not support all existing plug-ins and extensions.
