IBM releases new service management software tools to help firms better manage their IT kit

IBM Tivoli has launched a range of new service management software and online tools to help enterprises better manage their IT environments, reduce costs and boost productivity.

The Capacity Process Manager is part of a new line of products that lets Tivoli “deliver software tools and Itil-aligned processes around capacity management”, according to Tivoli worldwide manager, Al Zoller. The release will enable firms to better predict the performance of their IT systems and so reduce the chances of outages and wasting money by over-provisioning capacity, he added.

IBM also announced an update to its Change and Configuration Management Database, which integrates data from servers, networks and applications. Data can now be presented in a real-time dashboard – the new Tivoli Business Service Manager – so users can view changes and calculate how they are affecting the business, Zoller said.

“Some [firms] are focused on managing individual components of their infrastructure. Service management is the next step as it helps the business better understand the value of the IT supporting it,” added Zoller.

IBM also unveiled a Service Management Self Assessment Toolkit to help firms assess how they can best implement service management technology. Meanwhile, the Tivoli Unified Process Composer gives staff information to apply the correct tools and resources to follow IT management frameworks such as Itil and Cobit.
