LifeStation HD: Souped-up HTPC in disguise

Passive technologies' LifeStation HDPassive technologies calls its LifeStation HD a high-definition/high-fidelity digital entertainment box, but it stuck us as more like an over-glorified home theater personal computer. Confusing classification aside, the lifeStation is a highly integrated, one-box solution which covers personal video recording, 1080p video and even the latest Dolby TrueHD surround sound playback.

Under the hood is a Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo drive, solid-state hard disc, digital audio amplifier and even a silent passive cooling system. The latter is nice touch for minimizing noise critical for PC application in home entertainment. After all, having a loud and distracting fan is such a turn-off to the overall viewing experience.
