Exeter goes online for cash
Exeter University is trying a novel way of raising fund by selling old university signs on eBay.
The auction, which ends tomorrow, is to raise money for the university's foundation, which supports scholarships, libraries and student volunteer training.
Up for sale are signs from the campus and halls of residence, with old alumni being pitched to purchase a piece of their history.
"More than 160 distinctive green University signs that previously graced the campus are going under the hammer," the university says.
"Bids for the signs have been flooding in over the last few days, so act quickly if you want to rename your house 'The University of Exeter' or the 'The Great Hall'."
So far bidding has been brisk, and some of the main "Exeter University" signs going for over £200. Other popular choices are signs for the university's theatre and for the building that houses the student union bar.
