Europe leads global charge to digital TV

But other regions catching up fast, warns In-Stat

Europe is leading the world in the adoption of digital terrestrial TV, although other regions are fast gaining momentum, market watchers reported today.

In-Stat noted that, with analogue shutoffs approaching in the US and western Europe, strong drivers for digital terrestrial set-top boxes are on the horizon as consumers prepare for the transition from analogue to digital.

Recent In-Stat research predicts that total unit shipments of digital terrestrial set-top boxes will eclipse 47 million in 2011.

The study forecasts that revenue will have a more subdued compound annual growth rate than unit sales growth, due in large part to decreasing set-top box prices.
