Just in time for tomorrow's big Apple event, Microsoft has a new player price drop in order. They're lowering the Zune by $50, bringing it to $199. Many sites such as Amazon.com have been selling it at that price (and lower) for some time now, but it's nice to see something official.

Obviously the date of this price drop was intentional, but I wonder how big of an impact it will actually have on sales. After tomorrow, the Zune will potentially be facing off against a next-gen iPod. The price drop may serve another purpose though. It makes room for a higher capacity Zune (say 80GB) at an attractive price.
