One and only BitTorrent client for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs gets an upgrade

WinMobile Torrent ScreenshotAdisasta Software has released an update to what it claims is the "first and the only" BitTorrent client for Windows Mobile devices. WinMobile Torrent version 2.1 sports many new features and enhancements making it a "very worthwhile upgrade," according to the company.

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol for widely distributing and sharing large files without the need for hosting the files on centralized servers.

Adisasta describes WinMobile Torrent as an "advanced but user-friendly" BitTorrent client for Windows Mobile PDAs that allows users to create, "leech," and/or "seed" torrent files. It supports multiple and simultaneous download of torrents, and includes functions for managing and controlling torrents, downloads, and peers.

New features in version 2.1, according to Adisasta, include:
  • Selective download of files within a file group

  • Support for multiple trackers

  • Multi-tab user interface supporting one-handed navigation on Windows Mobile 5.0 devices

  • Create, seed, and leech torrents from within the application

Torrent creation wizardAdisasta says the new release also features redesigned core software module that provides faster performance, along with a new torrent creation wizard (pictured at right).

The company says that WinMobile Torrent works with WiFi, CDMA, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, and "almost any" network that provides an Internet connection.

Price and availability

A free 14-day trial download is available here. Full registration costs $20, but the upgrade is free for current users of version 1.x, according to Adisasta. It appears that version 2.1 only runs with Windows Mobile 5.0. An earlier version, 1.3, supports Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
