Blinkx boosts search with Video Wall

Results delivered visually using matrix of monitors

Video search engine Blinkx has unveiled a new website that merges the traditional "channel surfing" aspect of TV watching with the interactive element of online search.

Blinkx claims to have indexed more than six million hours of audio and video content from traditional news and entertainment brands such as Reuters, Bloomberg, ITV, BBC and Sky, and 'viral' sites like YouTube and Google Video.

The offering introduces news and entertainment feeds on the Blinkx homepage bringing an element of "breaking news" to the site, and a unique Video Wall that displays search results in a 5x5 matrix of monitors, each displaying a snippet from a result.

"Video should be delivered visually, not as a text-based list of results," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and chief technology officer at Blinkx.

"Two years ago, we reinvented video search with advanced speech recognition and transcription technology, rather than standard metadata-based keyword solutions. Now we have transformed the way we present the results to users."

The announcement came shortly after stories flooded the internet that Blinkx had signed a licensing deal with Microsoft to use its video search technology on the MSN and Live.com sites.
