AOL (America Online) to launch web services in India

America Online LogoAOL LLC (formerly America Online, Inc), one of the biggest online companies in the United States of America ($8 billion in revenues for the year 2005) is all set to enter the Indian web services market by the 15th of November, according to a report from CIOL.

The company which has its customer service and customer analysis center in Bangalore, India, was never too keen on the Indian market due to the fact that it had a subscription based revenue model and Indians are not too keen to pay for Web services which is obvious from the low uptake of premium e-mail services from other providers. However, AOL had recently launched a free service on September 12 and a company source on condition of anonymity has said that the Indian operation will be an advertising based revenue model.

AOL will have a tough fight with its Indian counterparts like Rediff, Indiatimes and international counterparts like Yahoo and MSN as it's a pretty late entrant in the Indian web services market.
