PlateSpin delivers its PowerConvert tool for automated virtual server migration
Server virtualisation tools specialist PlateSpin will ship version 6 of its PowerConvert tool to automatically migrate software between physical servers and virtual machines (VMs)
The main feature in the update is support for the recently released ESX Server version 3, part of VMware’s new Virtual Infrastructure 3 suite of server virtualisation tools. Firms upgrading from previous versions of ESX Server need to convert their virtual machine disk files to the new format used by ESX 3, said Cadman Chui, PlateSpin’s vice-president of marketing.
Though VMware supplies a conversion utility, it requires virtual machines to be shut down while it is working. PowerConvert 6 can handle this conversion without requiring virtual machines to be switched off first.
