Performancesoft Track manages day-to-day projects

Actuate’s new tools may remove the need for paper or Excel to control initiatives to tackle performance problems

Business performance management (BPM) software specialist Performancesoft yesterday (31 July) launched a new activity management suite to help firms manage projects and initiatives to tackle performance problems.

Performancesoft - which was acquired in January by business intelligence (BI) software provider Actuate and operates as a subsidiary of the company - said Actuate Performancesoft Track would provide users with project management tools to develop strategies and monitor and manage operational activities to support those strategies from a central point.

Jeff Perkins, CTO of Performancesoft, said large-scale projects would require more heavy-duty project and portfolio management systems, but argued that for smaller day-to-day initiatives Performancesoft Track could provide valuable functionality and replace the paper- or Excel-based approach to managing projects.

"For example, if your metric-monitoring tools detect a problem with high numbers of customer complaints then you can develop a customer satisfaction strategy using Track, break the strategy down to its constituent parts, assign ownership and resources to those tasks and monitor the initiative’s progress," said Perkins.

Perkins said this process would be relatively easy because the new suite is tightly integrated with Actuate's reporting functionality and Performancesoft's Views BPM suite.

The functionality can also be made available through a customisable web page that allows team members to access tasks lists and monitor the status of projects, Perkins said. "It effectively turns the Post-it notes many people use to manage operational activities into a user interface that make it much easier for firms to monitor and manage performance," he added. "It can be adapted to any initiative where project management tools would be overkill, such as service execution, cost management and compliance projects."
