Oracle revamps Visual Studio .NET developer tools

Move aims to improve integration with Microsoft Windows

Oracle today aimed to boost integration between its 10G database and Microsoft Windows with the introduction of revamped .NET software development tools.

The database giant unveiled the latest version of its Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET, a free plug-in that enables developers to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to develop .NET Framework-based applications with Oracle Database 10g. It also lifted the lid off the latest release of Oracle Data Provider for .NET in support of ADO.NET 2.0, Microsoft's standard for data access.

The latest version of Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET includes features such as an integrated debugger that enables developers to debug PL/SQL stored procedures and functions from within Visual Studio 2005. Oracle Data Provider for .NET helps developers to access information from the database more efficiently, the firm claimed.

"Delivering deeper integration between the Oracle Database and the Windows platform is a priority," said Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Server Technologies, Oracle.
