Cambridge Council renews outsourcing deal

Cambridge Council renews outsourcing deal

Local authority to spend £6m on five year IT contract

Cambridge City Council is extending its IT infrastructure support contract with Serco in a five years worth £6m.

The new contract is an extension of an existing six year deal between the council and the outsourcer, which provides the local authority with desktop, servers, telephony, business applications and 24 hour IT support.

The support is provided by Serco's Birmingham shared services call centre.

Rob Hammond, chief executive at Cambridge, says he is very pleased with the contribution Serco has made to the council.

'We were also very impressed with its proposals for the renewed contract,' he said.

'Their strong understanding of our needs and this contract will contribute to long term savings and meeting Gershon targets.'
