Joined-up Justice director general John Suffolk takes the eGovernment Unit job
John Suffolk has been appointed as the government chief information officer (CIO), replacing Ian Watmore following his move to head the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit.
Since 2004 Suffolk has led the £2bn Joined-Up Justice programme at the Home Office Criminal Justice IT unit. Previously he was IT director for the Britannia Building Society.
Suffolk will head the Cabinet Office eGovernment Unit, lead the CIO Council and oversee implementation of last November’s Transformational Government strategy. He will take over the role in early June.
‘John Suffolk has the drive, experience and leadership qualities to play an important part in realising government’s vision for public service reform,’ said Cabinet Office minister Jim Murphy.
