Maxdata touts stability of new AMD-based PCs

Euro PC maker offers AMD-based desktops with one year 'stability' guarantee

European PC maker Maxdata has introduced AMD-based desktop PCs with a guaranteed 12 month stability period for corporate customers. The move gives firms an alternative to Intel-based systems, which already offer the platform stability required by large organisations.

Maxdata's Favorit Stable A runs AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors and is based on Nvidia Business Platform (NBP) technology. System images produced for the Favorit Stable A can be used without any changes for all further purchases during the next 12 months, according to Maxdata.

"Homogeneous hardware and software is especially important for companies and public authorities when innovation cycles are increasing in speed, because it provides secure planning and lowers the cost of maintenance," said Maxdata's head of desktop product management, Claus Suckow.

Nvidia's NBP programme, which was launched in March, provides PC makers with certified motherboards built from specific Nivida chipsets and graphics hardware, and all necessary driver software. Nvidia said it intends to update the NBP specifications yearly, and each revision will be supported for a further two years beyond the 12-month production stability period.

The Favorit Stable A basic configuration is a 2GHz Athlon 64 X2 processor 3800+ with 1GB memory, 80GB Serial ATA II hard disk, DVD±RW drive and integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 graphics. Pricing for the system starts at £721, including VAT and shipping.

Maxdata said the systems are available now and are Windows Vista-ready with an optional trusted platform module (TPM).
