Constabulary HQ gets new communications infrastructure
Gloucestershire Constabulary has installed a 10GB IP infrastructure to handle voice and data traffic at its new headquarters.
The system is being used to support areas like CCTV monitoring, emergency service control and live feeds from police helicopters.
John Shepherd, Gloucestershire Constabulary's head of information services, says the IP infrastructure is core to improving the reliability and efficiency of the county's police.
'Installing innovative and robust ICT solutions will help us to achieve our vision of becoming the most operationally effective force in the country,' he said.
Gloucestershire is installing the network as part at its new headquarters and contracted ntl:Telewest to carry out the installation.
The initial development will lay the groundwork for a larger roll-out of an IP infrastructure to the entire Gloucestershire Constabulary, including 51 wide area network sites across the county.
'There is immense pressure to improve the reliability and efficiency of services, to serve the community better and also meet legislative demands,' Shepherd said.
'The solution has been superb and everyone at Waterwells is delighted,' he said.
