Problems sorted this morning
Update: PlusNet’s outage, which the firm’s marketing manager Brian Trevaskiss said affected some 1600 customers in total, was resolved finally at approximately 10am on Friday 28 April.
Sheffield-based ISP PlusNet this morning suffered an outage that has left an unconfirmed number of its 175,000 broadband customers without internet connectivity or email.
Brian Trevaskiss, marketing manager of PlusNet said that the fault had been traced to a failed fibre link connecting into Telehouse.
“The detail is that one of the fibre links to Telehouse were we house equipment in London has failed this morning. We are in the processing of switching the service round to get it up and running again. It is annoying that it has happened,” said Trevaskiss.
He added that the firm hoped that the service would be back up and running by today.
For customers worried about losing any emails which have been received during the outage Trevaskiss said that “usually nothing gets lost”.
The service status website for Metronet, which Plusnet acquired at the end of last November for £1.7m, stated at 10.53am this morning: “We are currently investigating issues with the above named services [Metronet, Port995 and Just the Name]. We believe that these issues are related to the problem with the link to one of our London sites. We currently have engineers working on these issues.”
However, at the time of going to press, the service had not been restored. And, somewhat ominously, the Metronet status page had disappeared leaving the site displaying just an Apache error message.
