Chiefs in the dark about breaches

A third of managers clueless about whether or not their network security has been breached

A third of senior managers do not know if their network security was breached last year, according to research published by risk management vendor nCircle.

A survey of 293 managers in medium and large UK companies found that 58 percent did not think their IT team communicated effectively about security. The lack of communication was highlighted by the fact that 33 percent did not know whether their firm had fallen victim to IT crime in 2005.

“Effective security provision is an everyday boardroom concern, yet some IT teams may be failing to involve senior managers appropriately and report to them in the way that they need,” commented Kevin Lamb, operations director at nCircle in Europe.

Elizabeth Ireland, nCircle marketing vice-president, added, “Most of the security spending has been on blocking threats rather than being proactive about risk management. Companies need a tiered approach to security.”
