Better backup for email

Disaster recovery specialist the Neverfail Group offers tool for continuous availability of Lotus Domino servers

Disaster recovery specialist the Neverfail Group has introduced a tool to ensure continuous availability of Lotus Domino servers, automatically switching in a backup system in the event of a failure. The company hopes this will attract organisations that have invested in BlackBerry wireless email systems based on Domino.

Neverfail for Lotus Domino monitors the Domino server's hardware, operating system, network infrastructure and the application itself, and can take corrective action if a problem occurs, the firm said. In the case of a critical failure, users are seamlessly switched over to a backup server that Neverfail keeps replicated with the primary mail server.

"Keeping users constantly connected to their business-critical applications no matter what the cause of the outage might be is Neverfail's mission," said chief executive Neil Robertson.

This protection extends to BlackBerry users that rely on Lotus Domino to access their email while out of the office, according to the vendor. Many firms deploy BlackBerry devices to keep key staff up to date with important messages, making the reliability of the mail server another critical concern.

Neverfail versions are also available to monitor the BlackBerry Enterprise Server itself and Microsoft Exchange.

Neverfail for Lotus Domino is licensed based on the server in a primary-backup pair that has the largest number of processors. Pricing starts at around £3,800.
