UK poised for first download number one

Fans go Crazy for Gnarls Barkley

This week's UK singles charts should see the first single to reach number one in the charts based on downloads alone.

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley has been available to buy as a download for the past week, and the CD goes on sale next week.

The single has been a big hit in the download charts since being used in BBC television adverts to promote Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show.

Under current UK chart rules, a download single must be available to buy as a CD in the shops the following week in order for the download sales to be counted.

A spokesman for music retailer HMV said that if the single took the number one spot this week it "would show that legal downloads have come of age".
