Apple chief's 'other' firm enjoys strongest ever year
Apple chief executive Steve Job's 'other' company, Pixar Animation Studios, yesterday reported 2005 earnings of $152.9m on revenues of $289.1m, against earnings of $141.7m and revenues of $273.5m in 2004.
Pixar earned $30.9m on revenues of $55.6m for the fourth quarter of 2005, compared to earnings of $55.2m on revenues of $108.9m in the fourth quarter of 2004.
"2005 marks Pixar's tenth year as a public company and our most profitable ever," said Jobs. He added that, with the proposed merger of Pixar and Disney, 2005 is likely to be the last report from Pixar as an independent public company.
Results for 2005 were driven by film revenues of $274.8m, primarily from The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.
The Incredibles generated $151.7m largely from worldwide home video and consumer products licensing, and Finding Nemo generated $58.3m also mainly from worldwide home video, television and consumer products licensing.
Pixar's library titles contributed approximately 23 per cent of its total film revenues, generating $63m during the year. Software licensing contributed $14.4m to full-year 2005 revenues.
