Phishers strike at Royal Bank of Scotland

Large numbers of the emails are already in circulation

Royal Bank of Scotland's online banking customers have become the latest target of phishers.

The emails come from a spoofed address and look similar to a legitimate RBS email. Large numbers of the emails, which purport to come from the legal department of RBS, are in circulation.

The body of the phishing email reads: 'Dear Valuable Customer of the Royal Bank of Scotland. As The Technical service of our bank has been currently updated and the security software has been upgraded for the safety and security of online banking, we kindly ask you to follow the link below to confirm your data, otherwise your access to the system may be blocked.'

An enclosed link leads to a website designed to mimic the standard RBS portal.

RBS said that it is aware of the attack. The bogus website, which is hosted in the US, has now been taken down.
