Orange warms to Microsoft mobile email

Operator offers services based on Windows Mobile 5.0 platform

Orange Business Solutions has unveiled a service which offers business customers access to Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 direct push email.

The mobile operator said that companies will be able to access services from 3 April incorporating Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, which includes the Messaging and Security Feature Pack.

The offering is supported by Orange Mobile Manager, a web-based tool that allows IT departments to set up Windows Mobile email across devices without manually configuring each one.

The Orange software can apply a range of pre-set configurations to different groups of users depending on their requirements, according to the mobile firm.

"Users want push email now and IT managers want rapid roll-out without having to recall handsets from the field," said Shaun Orpen, marketing director at Orange Business Solutions.

Windows Mobile Email from Orange offers a direct push email service to Windows Mobile 5.0 devices using Microsoft's Outlook format. It allows users to receive, edit and send Excel and Word attachments as well as open and view PowerPoint presentations.

Orange said it will offer Windows Mobile Email on the Orange SPV C600 and SPV M5000, as well as the SPV M600 which will be made available in April.

All devices will come loaded with the required Messaging Security Feature Pack. For users with pre MSFP Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, Orange provides a free download.
