Net income for quarter ending 31 January plummets to $1.8m from $396m
Novell reported yesterday that net income for the fiscal quarter ending 31 January 2006 reached $1.8m, down from $396m in the same period last year when the company reported high gains related to a settlement with Microsoft.
Net revenue for the three-month period dropped to $274.4m from $290.1m in the same quarter in 2005.
However, Novell reported total open platform solutions revenue of $56m, up from $14m in the year ago period, driven by sales of Linux and Open Enterprise Server.
Novell also reported $63m of systems, security and identity management revenue, up 20 per cent year on year. But revenue from Open Enterprise Server and NetWare-related products declined 11 per cent from the year ago period.
"We are pleased with the continued improvement in the core business this quarter," said Jack Messman, chairman and chief executive at Novell.
"Our growth businesses of Linux, identity and resource management are performing well, and we believe that we will continue to see growth throughout the fiscal year."
