Microsoft fights Korean monopoly conviction

Vendor refuses to unbundle Media Player and messaging software from Windows

Microsoft has appealed a South Korean ruling that found the company guilty of anti-trust violations.

As part of the conviction, Microsoft was fined £19 and the software vendor was forced to unbundled its Windows Media Player and messaging software from the Windows operating system.

Faillure to comply with the order could result in a ban on Windows sales in the nation.

Microsoft was first informed of the conviction last December, but didn't receive a written ruling until late February. Microsoft had previously said that it would appeal the decission.

The software vendor is facing similar sanctions from the European Union, where Microsoft has already started selling a special version of Windows without the Media Player. The company in Europe was fined £331m and was forced to meet certain interoperability requirements.
