PC manufacturer reveals plans to launch indirect sales strategy
Following the launch of its direct sales web site for consumers earlier this month, Time UK Factory has revealed that it will soon be unveiling a channel arm.
In January CRN revealed that the Time Computers brand is set to make a comeback, following the demise of Granville Technology, its parent company, last summer. The original founders of Time, Tahir Mohsan, and his half-brother Dr Tariq Mohammed, have been resurrecting the brand under a new online company called Time UK Factory (CRN, 23 January).
Bill Slater, sales director at Time UK Factory, told CRN: “Currently we sell to consumers only, but we will be setting up a dealer operation very soon. Dr Tariq Mohammed is working on that. We need to get our name back out there.”
Paul Graham, managing director of rival online reseller Excite IT, said: “It sounds like Time is now looking to go through the channel. It will be interesting to see how the channel will react. There’s been a lot of negative publicity surrounding Time and Granville, so I’m not sure how many VARs would want to sell the products.”
However, Keith Warburtion, executive director of the PC Association, said: “Memories in this marketplace are short and subject to being wooed by money. If Time UK Factory can come up with some good offers, there would be takers from the channel.”
