Apple unveils iTunes video subscriptions

One month of TV shows offered at a steep discount

Apple has introduced a new "multi pass" for its iTunes video store that lets consumers automatically receive new episodes of a television series as they are published.

The multi-pass costs $9.99 for 16 episodes, which amounts to four weeks of foortage. The plan offers a 69 per cent discount over the regular fee of $1.99 per individual episode.

The daily show is broadcast on Comedy Central. The show describes itself as "the most trusted name in fake news". The plan is also available for "The Colbert Report", a Daily Show spin-off.

Since the launch of the video store, Apple has been slowly expanding the number videos it offers for sale.

Industry analysts in the past have pointed to the lack of video subscriptions as a weak spot in Apple's offering. Apple has also resisted calls to create all-you-can-eat subscription music plans such the plans that are offered by Napster or Rhapsody.
