International standard for Software Asset Management welcomed
The IT industry has welcomed the launch of the international standard for Software Asset Management (SAM).
Launched last week, ISO/IEC 19770-1 is the result of cooperation between UK-based Investors in Software (IiS), members of both the standards and the SAM communities (CRN, 3 April).
Shaun Frohlich, chairman of IiS, said: “We welcome the ISO Standard as a significant development that will benefit software users, vendors and VARs. It allows organisations to benchmark SAM processes against internationally approved guidelines.”
Neil MacBride, vice-president of legal affairs for the Business Software Alliance, said: “We are delighted that ISO has launched this standard. It marks a milestone in the development of software management best practice and will help organisations ensure they are fully compliant.”
