Increased capacity designed for multifunction mobile phones

Memory manufacturer Kingston Technology this week added a 512MB MicroSD expansion memory card to its line of mobile memory products.

The media is designed for use with multifunction mobile phones that require more memory for premium features such as MP3 players, video functionality, high-quality cameras and 3D gaming.

"As multifunction smartphones gain acceptance in the domestic marketplace, consumers will find content and applications from online mobile portals that they want to own and use on their phones," said Keyla Velazquez, mobile media product manager at Kingston.

"With today's advanced video compression techniques, for example, a single 512MB card can hold several full-length movie downloads.

"A 512MB MicroSD memory card is also ideal for backing up address books, photos, contacts, data files and ring-tones."

David Linsalata, a research analyst at IDC, added: "Without sufficient storage users will be unable to fully leverage the multimedia-rich, advanced mobile phones now coming to market."

Kingston's MicroSD cards ship with a Secure Digital adapter for use as a full-sized SD card. Larger capacities will follow as device and mobile content needs develop, according to the company.
