Oracle swoops for app testing tools

Oracle is to buy Empirix to boost its web app testing muscle

Oracle has cherry-picked the web application testing assets from testing and performance monitoring firm Empirix for an undisclosed sum.

Empirix's e-Test suite will be incorporated into Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Real Application. According to Oracle, this will help its customers want to deploy applications faster, at higher quality and lower cost.

“Customers are looking for automated application testing solutions that help prevent costly application performance problems, avoid unplanned outages of business-critical applications, and automate the manual steps involved in applications testing,” said Leng Leng Tan, Oracle vice president of applications and systems management.

In a letter to its partners, Oracle's alliances and channels vice president Judson Althoff promised the acquisition of e-Test would strengthen Oracle's, " application load and functional testing technology, and enable Oracle to provide comprehensive application management life cycle solutions."

After Oracle’s purchase, Empirix’s portfolio will contain monitoring performance tool OneSight and hosted load testing service e-LoadExpert, as well as its Hammer testing and monitoring solutions for VoIP and IMS products.
