London 2012 Olympics chooses BT to supply communications

Telecoms giant signs up as sponsor and will provide networking and internet access for the Games

The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics has selected BT as its communications services provider, to support a £2bn event fit for the digital age.

BT will provide and manage voice and data networks, land-lines, internet access and communications services for athletes and staff across all venues.

The Olympics will be a digital event and BT has a key role to play in creating it, said London 1012 organising committee chairman Sebastian Coe.

“We have a wonderful opportunity to stage a 'Digital Games' in 2012 and BT will be integral in helping us do that," he said.

"Technology and communication is going to be a vast operation, starting now and taking us all the way through to games-time."

The contract allows BT exclusive marketing and usage rights to the London 2012 logo within its sector.

BT joins four other tier one partners and a two tier supporter in sponsoring the Games.
