Joost 1.1.2 Beta - Review

Choose from thousands of TV channels online

Platform: Windows XP, Windows Vista
Type: shareware
Manufacturer: Joost N.V
Size: 11.10MB

The current world of conventional TV is slowly migrating to a digital signal and, as as we migrate, we are becoming more aware of various media platforms using the Internet to broadcast television. With fast broadband, there's no reason we can't watch TV highlights or stream our favourite clips.

Joost is a platform from the founders of both Skype and Kazaa and appears to be one of the more credible projects, with a large team of developers working on the project. With the success of both Skype and Kazaa, Joost looks set to follow in their footsteps.

Like both Skype and Kazaa, Joost is based on peer to peer (P2P) technology. Each user installs Joost as a client which enables them to send and receive data. Initial downloads will be collected from the main server, then as its shared more widely, the files become available from anyone who has downloaded the file.

Becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. Joost boasts channels as MTV and VH1. Although these channels are not available in the U.K. yet, eventually licensing could make such channels available more widely.

Bottomline
Great tool for browsing and watching online television.
