IT jobs up 94 per cent

Recession fears have failed to hold back recruitment in IT

The number of new IT jobs being created went up 94 per cent last month despite the economic uncertainty, according to research by recruitment group Computer People.

Last month, 581 jobs were created, compared with only 300 in February 2007,

Businesses are turning to IT to help reduce costs, said Nick Dettmar, mManaging dDirector of Computer People.

“These figures are extremely encouraging for the technology industry as a whole and support the wider thinking that the IT sector is coming to the fore during this credit crunch," he said.

"We have already seen that many businesses are focusing on IT as they endeavour to improve efficiencies in the wake of the credit crunch, and these figures are indicative of a market thriving from greater demand for skilled workers.”
