Wind River Uses Oracle to Gain Deeper Customer Insight

Leading Software Device Maker Experiences Business-Transforming Success with Deployment of Oracle Products

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - Oracle today announced that Wind River, the global leader in device software optimization, has standardized its business operations on the Oracle(R) E-Business Suite, Oracle's Siebel CRM, and components of Oracle Fusion Middleware that include Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition, and the Oracle Customer Hub, a part of the Oracle Master Data Management offering, in order to address company-wide customer information issues. By selecting and deploying proven SOA, data management, and Business Intelligence components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, Wind River now has a cleaner, more efficient customer database, an effective and streamlined order-to-cash process and better access to information.

With more than 1,400 employees and thousands of customers, Wind River enables companies to develop and run device software faster, more reliable, and at a lower cost. When Scott Fenton, CIO of Wind River Systems, took over in August 2006, he realized that the company was suffering from a negative business impact due to the company's poorly integrated applications and unreliable customer information. Salespeople were unable to obtain an accurate rundown of customers' current product holdings. Orders were often transmitted and shipped improperly due to customer data errors and duplication, resulting in a costly and inefficient order-to-cash process. Sales reports were still created manually and delivered in days, rather than hours.

In order to improve Wind River's business operations, Fenton undertook a major multi-solution Oracle implementation. Over the past year, Wind River thoroughly cleansed its data with an upgrade from Siebel CRM Release 6.3 to Release 7.8, and then implemented Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Customer Hub to deliver complete integration between Siebel CRM and the Oracle E-Business Suite. The results of these deployments have already created incredibly clean records, a streamlined cash-to-order process, and a massive reduction in data duplication. Wind River also deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition to arm its sales staff with the right tools to create web-based dashboards for state-of-the-art sales reports. There are 500 users currently on the system.

"The deployment of Oracle was a 'must-do' for Wind River Systems to reach the next level of growth and efficiency," said Fenton. "By choosing best-of-breed SOA software for our current and future business systems, we can now deliver even greater service to our customers and focus on implementing new, powerful processes for our company."

"Standardizing on a proven SOA platform is the best way for customers to add business value from IT investments, while reaping the benefits of the most current and accurate customer information," said Jesper Andersen, Senior Vice President of Application Strategy at Oracle. "Wind River Systems is a stellar example of how companies can transform their business processes, and realize the potential of SOA. We look forward to working with Wind River for their future technology initiatives."

In addition to having internal business sponsors who drove the success of this project, Wind River credited their relationship with Oracle Consulting Services as an exceptional resource that contributed to their positive outcome.
