Toshiba launches tiny HD videocams


Gigashot offers 1080i captures and 20x optical zoom

Toshiba has launched two tiny camcorders capable of shooting high-definition video and storing it on an integrated hard disk

The top-of-the-range Gigashot A series, measuring just 7.81 x 13.54x 7.9cm, shoots interlaced MPEG-4/H.264 video at 1080i resolution and boasts a Fujinon 10x optical and 80x digital zoom. It will cost around £849.

The Gigashot K series, starting at £449, offers 1280x720 resolution and also has a 10x zoom, but the digital zoom is only 30x.

Toshiba also a new model in its Camileo range. The Pro HD uses a 5.0 megapixel CMOS sensor, and can shoot at a progressive resolution of 1280 x 720. It comes with 128MB of storage but its SDHC supports up to 32Gigabyte.

The Pro HD can operate as an a still camera with a 3x optical and 4x digital zoom. The starting price is £149.
