Cloudmark To Deliver Advanced Network Security For Telecom Service Providers On IBM BladeCenter

Protecting Mobile and Fixed-Line Messaging Infrastructures from Spam, Phishing and Viruses

BARCELONA, SPAIN — Mobile World Congress 2008 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced an integrated messaging security platform for telecom service providers based on IBM’s BladeCenter systems to help keep next-generation mobile and fixed-line messaging infrastructures and pipes “clean” of malicious traffic.

Cloudmark has optimized its Cloudmark Authority and Cloudmark Gateway to work seamlessly with the high-performance IBM BladeCenter family of products. When deployed together, Cloudmark’s messaging anti-abuse technologies with IBM BladeCenter systems offer service providers the benefits of unparalleled filtering accuracy, high message throughput and simplified management.

Synacor, that offers a wide range of value-added solutions for ISPs, including white label portals, premium online content and e-mail collaboration suites, deployed Cloudmark Gateway, a high-performance edge mail transfer agent (MTA), integrated with IBM servers to improve filtering performance and protection against spam, phishing and viruses for its demanding service provider customers.

“The combined power of Cloudmark’s messaging security technologies with IBM’s BladeCenter family delivers the advanced network security and scalability critical for the applications we offer and the telecom operators we serve,” said George Chamoun, senior vice president of client services and co-founder of Synacor. “With this solution, Synacor is able to deliver enhanced messaging capabilities and improved e-mail service quality while enjoying overall enhanced utilization of our messaging infrastructure.”

“Leading telecom service providers clearly understand the high costs of malware and are looking to deploy a comprehensive messaging security platform,” said Scott Firth, director of Next Generation Network systems, IBM. “Leveraging the best of IT and Telecom allows our customers to deploy new NGN security services at substantially improved price points then previous legacy telecom platforms.”

Performance tests with Cloudmark Authority and Cloudmark Gateway running on IBM BladeCenter LS21 model blade servers demonstrated a message throughput rate of up to 1,300 messages per second per blade. Overall, the combined solution delivers performance that is more than 10 times superior to competitive solutions running on proprietary hardware platforms.

“Cloudmark’s solutions on the IBM BladeCenter are a perfect fit to deliver advanced network security for telecom service providers,” said Jacinta Tobin, vice president of worldwide sales and business development. “Service providers need comprehensive security solutions that can effectively combat growing messaging threats while optimizing resource utilization. The accuracy and efficiency of the Cloudmark solution reduces hardware and operational costs while improving subscriber satisfaction.”
