O2 Xda replacements announced

MWg LogoOne of the biggest handheld stories last year for this region was news of O2's device business in Asia being sold to its management. The result, a new brand, MWg (Mobile and Wireless Group). Well, this new company is starting 2008 with a bang with the announcement of its new products and a revamped company logo (pictured here).

MWg's two new products are in the Atom and Zinc series. The Atom V will succeed the Atom Life. It will come with a 2.8-inch QVGA display, integrated GPS and a thickness of just 14.95mm. That's just 1mm thicker than the HTC Touch, arguably the most attractive WM6 handheld currently.

The Zinc II, naturally, will replace the O2 Zinc. We don't know much about what it can do, but apparently it will be slimmer than the original. The Atom V is slated for a Q1 release, while the Zinc II is for Q2.

According to its CEO Mark Billington, these devices will be "beautiful, intuitive and reliable". The proof, of course, will be in the pictures/products--but there are none as yet. MWg is not able to provide images at the moment, but we hope to get them for you very soon. Check back for updates.
