New version of Quickoffice productivity tool released for Symbian devices

Quickoffice has released a version of its mobile productivity suite that supports Office 2007 file formats on Symbian handsets with the S60 user interface.

Available immediately, Quickoffice Premier 5.0 consists of a word processor, spreadsheet and presentations tool for Symbian-based smartphones equipped with the popular S60 user interface.

The applications support complete creation and editing of Office OpenXML Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from Microsoft’s Office 2007, according to Quickoffice. The suite also includes printer support, and the ability to link with Nokia’s Mail for Exchange 2.0 application to view and edit attached files sent by email.

"Symbian smartphone owners urgently need user-friendly software to support Office 2007 files, as access to these files increasingly becomes a must-have for mobile professionals," said the firm’s vice president of product management, Paul Moreton.

Quickoffice Premier 5.0 is available for download from the company’s website, and users of current versions of the suite will be able to upgrade for a discount. Versions of Quickoffice are also available for Symbian handsets with the UIQ user interface, and for Palm OS devices.
