Bell Micro's security division head gears up to replicate UK success in the US

Bell Micro’s security division head is heading off to the US to replicate the success of the unit over the pond.

Duncan Hume, will head out to Bell Micro’s headquarters in Georgia to ramp up the distributor’s security portfolio and sign new vendors to its books.

Hume said: “I worked in the US for six years back in the mid 90s and the distribution model is totally different to the UK model, but I know how it works. I have been talking about the opportunity to replicate what I had done in the UK, in the states, and it has come to fruition.

“I am proud of what I have built in the UK and am genuinely looking forward to this new challenge,” he said.

Hume will head over to the states towards the end of the first quarter 2008. A successor has not yet been recruited to fill his role.

Antony Young, director, services and security divisions at Bell Micro said: “Duncan has done a fantastic job of establishing OpenPSL and latterly Bell Micro’s Security business, growing it from virtually nothing to make us one of the largest distributors in the UK. He’s an ideal person to establish and replicate this for us in the US and I’m really pleased that we are able to offer him this opportunity.

“We will now start the process of seeking a replacement and are looking for someone who can build on the great foundation already in place. We have some exciting and aggressive growth plans for 2008 so we need a proven leader who can help us to realise these ambitions.
We are envisaging a long handover process to ensure that the team, our customers and our vendor partners aren’t affected by these changes but would welcome a dialogue with anyone who has concerns.”
