Give no-name LCD TVs a chance

"Why pay more for a name brand?" is a valid question when applied to tissue paper and prescription drugs, but does it make sense when the salesman (or a pop-up ad) is talking about a $1,000 flat-panel television? For avid bargain-hunters, the answer is yes. The LCD television market is clogged with a glut of generic brands that you've never heard of: Vizio, Syntax Olevia, and Norcent. If you don't want to pay a couple of hundred extra for a Sharp or a Samsung, if you're going to be watching only standard TV and not high-def or movies, or if you just feel like rooting for the underdog, look beyond the rating and give one of these sets a chance.
